International Journal of Forest Engineering

The International Journal of Forest Engineering is dedicated to the dissemination of scholarly writings in all aspects of forest operations. The scope of the journal  and other information can be found under the "About" heading.

If you want to be alerted about new issues and other announcements, please sign up under the "Register" heading.

Due to the booming interest in using forest biomass for energy purposes, the IJFE especially welcomes papers addressing such issues.

Faster publication and no page fee for 2012

As a part of the ongoing strategic work with the IJFE, the time from submission to online publication will be considerably shortened. The reviewing is now faster and accepted articles will be published online as they are ready.

Additionally, the page fee is dropped during 2012. Thus, accepted manuscripts that are submitted during 2012 will be published free of charge. The page fee will be resumed in 2013, but at a much lower level than previously.

IJFE welcomes forest energy expertise

Due to the booming interest in using forest biomass for energy purposes, the International Journal of Forest Engineering (IJFE) recently started cooperation with the Journal of Forest Energy (JFE) initiative. As a result, the JFE will join IJFE instead of fully starting up. The benefits of this are mutual: the scope of JFE will be covered without the difficulties and uncertainties of establishing a new journal; and IJFE will have a much welcome additional expertise network within the area of forest biomass for energy.

Consequently, the scope of the IJFE has been extended to also include forest biomass for energy. Typical topics include harvesting systems and logistics of forest biomass for energy, sustainability of forest biomass production and utilization, biomass from short rotation forests and biomass resource availability.

The JFE initiative is lead by Dominik Röser and Lauri Sikanen, and is a joint effort by COST Action FP0902 “Development and Harmonization of New Operational and Forest Assessment Procedures of Sustainable Forest Biomass Supply” and IEA Bioenergy Task 43 “Biomass Feedstocks for Energy Markets”.
